Rating:

Jailbait is a multi layered thriller about a policeman who is protecting a young girl from a ring of sex slaves. Sixteen year old Merci Cooper (Krista Errickson) is an aspiring singer, headed to the big city in pursuit of her dreams. But when she disappears, her older, but still underage half sister Kyle Bradley (Ren'e Humphrey) sets out to find her and bring her back home. When she too winds up on the streets, a caring cop, Sergeant Lee Tefler (C. Thomas Howell) takes her in and makes it his mission to protect the young girl, as the two of them uncover a secret underground sex trade. The relationship gets complicated, and the search for Merci gets desperate as tensions rise with Kyle under fire from all angles, but Tefler does all he can to protect the young girl without crossing the line. Rafal Zielinski directs this story that is both charming and uneasy, an action packed, convoluted love affair. Jailbait is a break from the norm; a Hollywood pic that veers a turn to the left.moreless

  • 50

    Philadelphia Inquirer Carrie Rickey

Claustrophobic and overwrought, Jailbait is an unpleasant excursion into gay panic mitigated somewhat by performances that are hard to shake.

The cruelty of the law has been better demonstrated with news stories, and unless you're a Californian with two strikes against you, I don't know why you'd want to do this movie to...

    The New York Times

A stagy, only mildly compelling prison drama that ends up feeling like purgatory to all involved.
