Movie Summary

2003
Rating:

Japanese Story is a 2003 Australian drama starring Toni Collette as Sandy Edwards, the director for a software company in Western Australia. One of her business partners leads Sandy to believe she has the chance to make a lot of money for the company through a Japanese businessman who is coming to visit. She agrees to be the man’s guide for his time in Australia, a job that begins as an annoying business necessity and becomes a life-changing experience. Tachibana Hiromitsu (Gotaro Tsunashima) makes a bad first impression on Sandy. He treats her like his personal wait staff, expecting her to carry his bags and refusing to engage in polite conversation. As it turns out, Hiromitsu is far more interested in the trip as a self-discovery vacation than as an extended business meeting. He makes Sandy drive him out into the Australian wilderness, where their mutual resentment slowly builds into a steamy affair. Japanese Story is an inspiring story of the similarities between humans, no matter where they’ve come from.moreless
