Jaws 2 is a 1978 thriller and the sequel to Steven Spielberg's 1975 blockbuster film Jaws, starring Roy Scheider as Police Chief Martin Brody who once again must defend the beaches of Amity Island from an unnaturally large, man-eating great white shark. It's vacation season on Amity Island, and everyone's hoping for a safe, profitable summer. However, unfortunate events start happening that point towards another shark problem. First, a team of divers goes missing. Then a killer whale washes ashore covered in large bite wounds. Chief Brody warns Mayor Vaughn (Murray Hamilton) of the dangers of another shark in the water, but the Mayor is hesitant to do anything that might scare away tourists during the height of vacation season. When people begin to die, it's up to Chief Brody to return to the waters that nearly killed him once already and face another aquatic killing machine. Jaws 2 is an exciting and scary film, directed by Jeannot Szwarc and featuring a new original score from Academy Award-winning composer John Williams.moreless

Metacritic Score

  • 70

    IGN

Directorially, last minute replacement director Jeannot Szwarc has done a nice job and there's some really nice photography here.

  • 63

    Chicago Tribune Gene Siskel

For a film about deep water terror, Jaws 2 is really quite shallow. [16 June 1978, p.3-2]

  • 60

    Empire

It never comes close to the classic status of its predecessor, but for drive-in horror thrills, this still has sufficient bite.
