Jesse Stone: Thin Ice is the fifth outing for the title character, based on a series of novels by Robert B. Parker. In this film, Stone (Tom Selleck) is on an informal stakeout in Boston with his old friend, Captain Healy (Stephen McHattie), a state policeman. Stone is not sure what Healy is investigating, so when an unknown man shoots them both during the stakeout, leaving Healy critically injured, Stone sets out to investigate why. His investigation eventually leads him into a seven-year-old missing person case in New Mexico, an affair with an Internal Affairs officer and a relapse into alcoholism, something Stone has struggled with throughout this series. If that is not enough, a local politician tries to oust Stone from his job as the sheriff of Paradise, Massachusetts, the small town where Stone works. This installment of the Jesse Stone series was directed by Robert Harmon, from a script by Selleck and Michael Brandman.
