Jesus Christ Superstar is the film adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's hit Broadway rock opera. The movie begins as Jesus (Ted Neeley) arrives on the set of Jesus Christ Superstar in Israel. Shortly thereafter, the production begins and follows Jesus's interactions with Judas Iscariot (Carl Anderson). Judas has become concerned at Jesus's popularity, as he seems him as a mere mortal, rather than the Son of God. The film mixes elements of modern day Israel with the traditional Gospel version of events leading up to Jesus's crucifixion. Amongst the more notable moments are Judas's solo sung atop a silver cross, and a meeting with King Herod (Josh Mostel), who appears with his friends dressed in flamboyant colors and neon wings. The final scenes of the film show the cast striking the set, as the production of the show has officially finished. With its liberal interpretations of history and bizarre fictional situations, Jesus Christ Superstar is one of the best recognized rock operas of all time.moreless
