Jim Gaffigan: Beyond the Pale is a comedy special featuring Gaffigan, a standup comedian popular for his riffs on domestic life, especially his comic takes on food. His trademark routine on Hot Pockets, the microwavable meat and cheese turnovers, stretches out over five minutes here. Other routines include Gaffigan's instructions on how to properly eat like an American, using a donut to make a sandwich. He contends that the fancier the food, the more elaborate the packaging, joking that generic cereal just looks sad, like it is homeless. Beyond his food routines, he also offers a lighthearted take on what is like to be raised as a Catholic. Gaffigan is recognized for his falsetto alter-ego, supplying ongoing commentary of his act, posing as an audience member clearly confused by Gaffigan's oddball sense of humor. This one-hour special from 2006 is from Comedy Central, and was filmed at the Vic Theater in Chicago.
