Jo Jo Dancer, Your Life is Calling is a 1986 biographical comedy movie by director Richard Pryor, who also starred as the title character, Jo Jo Dancer, alongside Debbie Allen and Michael Ironside. Jo Jo Dancer is a popular stand up comedian who suffers from severe burns after a drug related incident. Dancer lies in a hospital, deep in a coma from his burns, but his spiritual alter ego (Richard Pryor) leaves the hospital and revisits Dancers life. From growing up in a brothel to struggling to make it as a comedian in the cutthroat entertainment industry, the path of Dancers life was far from easy. When he finally did achieve success, he lacked the foundations to know how to deal with that success in a productive fashion. Instead, he turned to womanizing and heavy drug use in order to achieve hedonistic goals of short term pleasure and superficial happiness. Jo Jos alter ego watches as this goes on and tries to convince his past self to stop end the self destructive cycle. Jo Jo Dancer, Your Life is Calling was nominated for a 1987 Young Artist Award ELon Coxs performace.moreless
