Joe Somebody is a romantic comedy directed by John Pasquin. Recently divorced, Joe Scheffer (Tim Allen) hits rock bottom when co-worker Mark McKinney (Patrick Warburton) beats him up in the office parking lot in front of his daughter, Natalie (Hayden Panettiere). Long passed over for promotions at work, still obsessing over his ex-wife Callie (Kelly Lynch), Joe has reached the limit of humiliations he can accept. When Meg Harper (Julie Bowen), the Wellness Coordinator at his office, asks him in exasperation, "What do you want?" Joe finally decides to reclaim his life. From that point onward, Joe's world begins to change in unexpected ways. He challenges Mark McKinney to a fight to regain his honor. To prepare for the fight, he hires movie martial arts expert Chuck Scarett (Jim Belushi). Seeing the change in his confidence, he is given a promotion at work and finds the love of Meg Harper. As the film heads toward the climatic scene, however, Joe finds out that his new found success isn't all what it seems.moreless

Metacritic Score

  • 70

    Los Angeles Times Kevin Thomas

Joe Somebody sends audiences home happy but also with an awareness that happy endings have to be earned in real life as on the screen.

  • 60

    Variety Scott Foundas

Pretty formulaic stuff: bland self-empowerment tinged with warm fuzzies in all the right places. But what makes this "Somebody" something is Pasquin's deft touch and understanding ...

  • 40

The New York Times Stephen Holden

Continually squanders its opportunities for hilarity.
