John Wayne: The Dawn Rider is a black-and-white western from 1935 starring silver screen icon John Wayne. Written and directed by Robert N. Bradbury, from a story by Lloyd Nosler, the movie focuses on a man named John Mason (John Wayne), also known as the Dawn Rider. As the movie begins Mason is returning home to visit his beloved father, who is a local rancher. Just as Mason is arriving home he sees that his father is being robbed and watches in horror as the ruthless bandits murder his dad. Mason frantically gives chase in an attempt to catch the killers, but he is shot and seriously injured. Mason is brought back to health by a kind nurse named Alice (Marion Burns). Alice is the object of Mason's friend Ben McClure's (Reed Howes) affection, but it seems she has eyes for Mason. In an act of jealousy McClure removes the bullets from Mason's gun. As Mason rides off into the sunset to get revenge on his father's killers, he does not realize that he has no bullets in his gun and is totally defenseless.
