Joseph Andrews is a 1977 film that blends elements of comedy, romance and high adventure. The 18th century period piece centers on Joseph Andrews (Peter Firth), a young servant. Although born into a lowly social status, Joseph's striking good looks capture the attention of many women and eventually lead Joseph to the outrageous and unstoppable Lady Booby (Ann-Magret). Respectful and mild-mannered, Joseph is not sure how to respond to Lady Booby's aggressively amorous advances, but she takes him as her footman and keeps him close. Joseph loves a fellow servant girl, Fanny (Natalie Ogle), a sweet-natured and innocent girl who is the opposite of the bawdy Lady Booby. After an eventful trip to Bath, Lady Booby decides she's tired of Joseph's innocence and the attention he draws. But even after he finds freedom, Joseph's life is still full of complications and obstacles. He begins to wonder if he'll ever be able to enjoy a peaceful life with his beloved Fanny.
