Journey to Lasta tells the story of an immigrant's struggles as he tries to fulfill his dream of introducing his country's music to the world. Tsegaye (Tsegaye B. Selassie) is a reggae musician living in Ethiopia. His best friend and ex-band mate Krible (Kirubel Assefa) left for America to become a famous musician. Tsegaye is married to Erimas (Tesfaye Hailu Aragaw) and lives content knowing that his best friend is bringing his music to America. When he receives word that Krible quit music and is working in a California restaurant, he decides to make it his mission to bring Ethiopian reggae to the United States for the world to see. Tsegaye heads to California with his shy drummer friend Teferi (Teferi Assefa) to look for Krible, and he promises his wife that he will remain faithful during his journey. The duo finds Krible in L.A. and convinces him to join their band. Tsegaye soon realizes that being an immigrant in a foreign land is not easy, due to cultural differences and language barriers. Singing a contract with Binyam (Johnny Ashenafi), a sleazy promoter who takes 80% of their earnings, doesn't help matters. Tsegaye now faces the challenge of completing his mission in life and staying faithful to his wife, especially after meeting the beautiful Selam (Jessica Beshir).moreless
