Journey to the Center of the Earth, which is an adaptation of Jules Verne's classic 1864 novel, is a 1954 adventure film directed by Henry Levin. When one of his students gives him a paperweight made from volcanic rock, Professor Oliver Lindenbrook (James Mason) finds a mysterious message inside of it from an Icelandic explorer claiming to have traveled to the center of the earth. Professor Lindenbrook tells his friend Professor G''teborg (Ivan Triesault) about his findings, but G''teborg betrays him and decides to head to the earth's core on his own. With help from intelligent student Alec McEwan (Pat Boone), Professor Lindenbrook then sets out on a journey to Iceland in order to find the center of the earth first. Professor Lindenbrook and his crew soon discover a passage that leads to the earth's core, where they face a perilous, yet beautiful, environment filled with strange plants and ravenous dinosaurs. Once there, they must also struggle against crazed Count Saknussem (Thayer David), a rival scientist doing trying to thwart their mission.moreless
