Joy Ride is the 2001 road suspense horror hit from Southwest Gothic specialist John Dahl and future superstar television writer/producer J.J. Abrams (Lost, Super 8, Star Trek, Mission: Impossible III). The film begins with the college student Lewis Thomas (Paul Walker, Fast Five), who decides to drive across the country to see Venna (Leelee Sobieski, The Wicker Man), a friend who he has always been in love with. She's single now and he finally wants to tell her what he feels for her. But he has one big problem, his brother Fuller (Steve Zahn, Bandidas) is in jail and Lewis will have to bail him out and take him home with him. During their trip Fuller and Lewis play a joke with a trucker, only known as 'Rusty Nail', by telling him over the CB radio that Lewis is Candy Kane, a woman who is interested in meeting him. At first they have a good laugh with it, but then the joke takes a very serious turn and the trucker wants more than just an apology from the three friends...moreless
