Julie & Julia is a 2009 drama that contrasts the lives of famous chef Julia Child and normal New Yorker, Julie Powell. Julie Powell (Amy Adams) is a writer in New York working at the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation's call center fielding calls relating to the events of September 11th, 2001. She hates the job and decides to spend the rest of her life doing something fun. She decides on cooking every recipe in Julia Child's cookbook in the span of one year. The film also showcases Julia Child (Meryl Streep) while attending Le Cordon Bleu cooking school in the 1950s and working on said cook book about French cooking for Americans. The parallels between the women's struggles take center stage in the film as Powell begins to blog about her quest to cook all the recipes in the cook book. Powell's blog begins to gain attention from the mainstream media and eventually even the attention of Child herself, while in the 1950s, Child has just received a publishing deal for her book.
