June Night, a classic 1940 Swedish drama film, tells the story of a beautiful woman Kerstin Norback (Ingrid Bergman) who has chosen to live peacefully in a different place free from media attention, rather than disclose the shameful and demoralizing relationship with her loose sailor ex-lover, who had her shot and left her severely wounded. To escape the public trial, which became the center of public controversy in her town, Kerstin flees to Stockholm. She takes on a new name and begins to start her life over, avoiding the scandal that has kept her life under public scrutiny. In Stockholm, she tries to live peacefully with a group of women helping her rebuild her life, but Kerstin still fears that her past may one day be revealed. Suddenly, her fear comes true. With the sudden appearance of Kerstin's ex-lover, Gunnar (Nils Asklund), she hears gossips around the town talking about her past life. Once again, the media goes after her and threatens to reopen the long forgotten story of her once scandalous relationship.moreless
