Just Cause is a 1995 crime drama directed by Arne Glimcher. Paul Armstrong (Sean Connery) is a renowned lawyer who has a reputation as a strong opponent of capital punishment. Although he has retired and is looking forward to a more peaceful lifestyle, Armstrong changes his mind after being contacted by Bobby Earl Ferguson (Blair Underwood). Ferguson has been in prison for the past eight years, convicted for the murder of a young girl. The problem is that Ferguson claims he is innocent, and insists that his persecutors are motivated by pure racism and not any real evidence of his involvement. Now facing execution, Ferguson is making one last effort to seek justice and regain his rightful freedom. Armstrong reluctantly comes to his aid, not wanting an innocent man's blood on his hands. Leaving his daughter (Scarlett Johansson) and wife (Kate Capshaw), Armstrong heads out to help the young man, but he soon discovers that he is just one unwitting part of a very complicated and dangerous puzzle. Sherriff Brown (Laurence Fishburne) only makes Armstrong's job more difficult.
