Kadosh is a 1999 Israeli film directed by Amos Gital and starring Yael Abecassis, Yoram Hattab, and Meital Barda. The film tells the story of two Orthodox Jewish women struggling to uphold the values and morals within their oppressive religion. In the opening scene of the film we see that Meir prays to God and thanks Him for not being born a woman. Rivka (Abecassis) has been married to Meir (Hattab) for over ten years, and has been unable to bear children. Meir's father, a rabbi, encourages Meir to get a divorce so that he may have children. Meanwhile, Rivka's sister Malka (Barda) has fallen in love with a secular Jew, which causes problems within her highly religious family. The rabbi then takes it upon himself to arrange a marriage between Malka and Yossef. With neither of their wishes be respected, Malka and Riyka struggle to conform to the patriarchal society built upon Orthodox Judaism.
