Kai Doh Maru is a long form Japanese animation short film about a girl who is raised in the mountains, and later trains to become a warrior. In the Heian Era in ancient Japan, a young girl named Kintoki is the daughter of a Feudal lord who has raised her as a boy, to avoid his brother taking control of their clan. When, however, her uncle murders her parents in an effort to do just that, Kintoki escapes to the mountains, where she lives a harsh life and is given the nickname Kai Doh Maru by local villagers. After Raiko, the captain of a group of warriors called The Four Knights, comes to rescue her, she studies to learn martial arts, developing skills as a samurai, and aspires to fight alongside them, continuing to be raised and treated like a boy. However, as she becomes a young woman, Kai Doh Maru begins to develop feelings of affection and love toward Raiko, feelings that are further complicated when a mysterious woman from her past enters both their lives.
