Kanhaiya is a 1959 romantic drama directed by Om Prakash. Beautiful young Shanno (Nutan Behl) has a reputation for being a little odd. She is deeply devoted to Kanhaiya, an alias of the deity Lord Krishna, and spends most of her time alone, singing, dancing and otherwise worshipping Kanhaiya. Her mother (Leela Mishra) and father (Raj Mehra) worry about Shanno sometimes, since she might not find a suitable husband in their small village, but they are comforted by Shanno's devout personality. One day, Shanno runs across a stranger (Raj Kapoor) in the forest. He introduces himself as Kanhaiya. Shanno falls in love almost instantly, believing that she is finally being rewarded for her religious devotion. Kanhaiya and Shanno start to court each other, spurring dozens of rumors in their small village. Shanno is told she must marry the man to avoid scandal. Harsh reality sets in when Shanno realizes that Kanhaiya is just a local slacker. She decides that she will not get married, but Kanhaiya might be able to win her heart anyway.moreless
