Karma (2006) is a blood-chilling thriller that explores the terrifying reality of kidnapping and a rape. The film tells the story of Gail (Kerry Rupe), a young preschool teacher, who is kidnapped by a deranged psychopath on her way home from work. Expectations of celebrating her birthday are completely dashed as her icy-hearted abductor, Zero (Laurence Mullany), shows no remorse in his brutally violent beatings. She finds herself facing electrocution, rape and totally inhumane treatment. The film shows graphic references to drug use, the horrors of human trafficking, physical abuse and AIDS. Director Thomas Roarty sends an electrifying message about the cold lives lived by the many victims of these offenses against humanity. In the cinematic setting he is able to relate this to the audience in a way that isn't threatening but entertaining and educating. Each viewer comes away from the experience with the opportunity to explore their own morality and beliefs.
