PG-13
Kate & Leopold is a 2001 romantic comedy film by director James Mangold, starring Meg Ryan and Hugh Jackman. Kate McKay (Meg Ryan) lives in New York City with her actor brother, Charlie McKay (Breckin Meyer), right under the apartment of her ex-boyfriend, Stuart Besser (Live Schreiber). When Stuart finds a space near the Brooklyn Bridge where there is a time gap, he travels back to the 19th century and takes pictures of the non-modern world. Leopold (Hugh Jackman) is a man from the 1870s whose curiosity about Stuart’s box causes him to follow Stuart—all the way back to the 21st century. Leopold has no clue about most of the goings-on of the modern world, but when Charlie meets him and thinks he is a fellow actor who is always in character, he finds a friend and a guide. He also meets Kate and, despite their very different ways of life, sparks start to fly. Kate & Leopold was nominated for a 2002 Oscar, as well as a 2002 Critics Choice Award, a 2002 Golden Globe Award, and a 2002 World Soundtrack Award, and won an additional 2002 Golden Globe Award.moreless
