Kick-Ass is a 2010 super-hero/comedy film starring Aaron Johnson as Dave Lizewski as a young boy who decides to become a real-life super-hero. Dave is brutally mugged in his first attempt at crime fighting, which results in metal plates being put in his body as well as giving him an increased pain threshold. When he returns to school, his school crush Katie Deuxma (Lyndsy Fonseca) is interested in him because she thinks he is gay. He keeps this up in order to spend time with her. He has also resumed crime fighting, thwarting one crime that is filmed and put on MySpace.com giving him the name "Kick-Ass". Katie tells Dave she is being harassed so Kick-Ass has to save her. Kick-Ass, however, is captured in the heroic attempt. Only to be rescued by another real-life super hero Hit-Girl (Chloe Grace Moretz) and Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage). It turns out Big Daddy is a former cop framed by D'Amico and that he would like to work with Kick-Ass. D'Amico vows to take down the entire team, enlisting his son Chris (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) to become a villain known as Red Mist. After an attack from Red Mist and his gang, our heroes are badly injured. Kick-Ass wants Hit-Girl to quit, but she follows her father and Kick-Ass agrees to help. They go on one last mission to defeat the Red Mist and D'Amico and a huge shootout ensues. They defeat the bad guys and a new generation of real-life superheroes crops up.moreless

Ms. Moretz is by far the best thing about the film: she holds the screen as gracefully as she executes a running back flip.

  • A Kick-Ass Good Time

    7.5
Kick-Ass is a dark satire that takes a disturbing look at the realities of superheroism. It's the story of a comic obsessed high school kid who takes the step from fantasy to reality by donning a costume and fighting crime, and in doing so inspires others. The cast includes Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, and Nicolas Cage. But, it's really Cage and Moretz who carry the film with their fun, charismatic performances. And while the film sets out to be a reality based superhero tale, it quickly loses focus and devolves into a typical fantasy based one. Still, there are a lot of amazing action sequences and a really strong score. Kick-Ass has a lot of fun playing around with comic book cliches, and delivers a solid, high adrenaline action film.moreless
