Kid Blue is a 1973 comedy which proves that going straight isn't as easy as one would think. Bickford Waner (Dennis Hopper) arrives in the small town of Dime Box, Texas, fresh from Fort Worth. He takes on a series of odd jobs, from emptying spittoons to wringing chicken necks, trying to make an honest living. Along the way, he makes friends with married couple Reese (Warren Oates) and Molly Ford (Lee Purcell). Before long, however, things start to go bad for Waner. Frustrated with her effeminate husband, Molly seduces Waner. Then Waner's former girlfriend, a dancing girl named Janet Conforto (Janice Rule), arrives and reveals that the well-meaning Bickford Waner is actually the notorious train robber Kid Blue. Waner, fed up with the difficulty of trying to live a moral life, gives up on his goal and starts plotting crime again. The hijinks that follow sweep the whole town of Dime Box into the fray.
