King David is a 1985 movie based on the life of the Old Testament Biblical figure King David. David (Richard Gere) is a young shepherd boy and harp player under the employ of King Saul (Edward Woodward) who wins the adoration of the people of Israel when he kills Goliath (George Eastman), the giant who caused their army to tremble. Jealous of his fame, Saul plots to kill him, but his son Jonathon (Jack Klaff) intervenes and helps David to escape. Through a series of climatic events, David becomes king himself, but his trials are not over as he seduces Bathsheba (Alice Krige), the wife of another man, and faces God's punishment for his sin. Further adding to his woes, his son Absalom (Jean Marc Barr) plots to usurp the throne. Total runtime is just under two hours. Anyone familiar with the story of David or a fan of action packed biographical stories will find something to like about King David.moreless
