King Solomon's Mines is a 1950 Academy Award winning film based on a popular Victorian novel by adventure writer and fabulist Sir Rider Haggard. In this action adventure Allan Quatermain (Stewart Granger) helps a young woman, Elizabeth Curtis (Debora Kerr), search for her lost husband in the mysterious and treacherous jungles of Africa. On their journey to find Elizabeth's husband, the duo encounters great beasts and dangerous serpents, with each turn more deadly than the next. Along the trail, Quatermain and Elizabeth quarrel constantly with each other, barely able to stand each other's company for more than a few moments. However, in classic movie fashion, Quatermain and Elizabeth's disdain for one another slowly turns into love as Quatermain learns that Elizabeth's journey is not one driven by adulation for her husband but one driven by guilt. Will Elizabeth find her husband or will she realize that the man she had truly been searching for was right before her eyes the entire time?moreless
