Kiss Me Deadly

Movie Summary

Director:
Robert Aldrich
Released:
1955
Rating:
Not Available
Kiss Me Deadly is a good pick for anyone who likes the film-noir or science fiction genres. Gritty and hard-edged, this film is considered one of the top of its time. The film focuses on private eye Mike Hammer (Ralph Meeker) and his assistant/lover Velda (Maxine Cooper). One night Hammer is driving and he stops to pick up Christina (Cloris Leachman), who's escaped from a local mental institution. The two are waylaid by thugs beginning a sequence of events ending in Christina's murder and Mike Hammer barely surviving being pushed over a cliff in his car. When Hammer inevitably takes up the case the already complicated plot becomes more so as it becomes clear that the events are a result of a plot involving a device called "the great whatsit." This is a film that is not only entertaining and intriguing, but also reflects the paranoia of the red scare that overtook the country in the 1950s. As such, this film is a must watch for any film buff.moreless
