Klute is a 1971 crime thriller starring Jane Fonda as a Manhattan call girl caught in the middle of a murder mystery. Small town detective John Klute (Donald Sutherland) travels to New York to help find missing engineer, Tom Gruneman (Robert Milli). Klute's only lead is an obscene letter written to Bree Daniels (Jane Fonda), a high-end prostitute, who has been trying to leave the profession through acting and modeling work. Klute secretly records her phone calls in order to blackmail her into helping him find Tom, since she continues to receive calls and letters that may be from Tom. Klute's investigations lead him to believe that someone else with dangerous intentions has been stalking her. In spite of Bree's resistance and suspicions, Klute soon finds himself protecting her from an ominous threat. At the same time, he finds his feelings straying from the professional to the personal. Alan J. Pakula ("All the President's Men") directs this dark and moody thriller that won Jane Fonda her first Oscar.moreless
