Knocked Up is a 2007 film from 40-year-old Virgin and Superbad writer/director Judd Apatow, about Alison Scott (Katherine Heigl), a television personality on E! Entertainment, whose new promotion becomes endangered when she has a one-night stand with slacker Ben Stone (Seth Rogen) that results in her being pregnant with his baby. Ben lives off of a settlement he got from an injury, smokes a lot of marijuana, and is working on a porn website with his friends. Alison lives in her sister Debbies (Leslie Mann) pool house and has just been put on-air as an interviewer at her job. It is when she and Debbie are celebrating the promotion that she meets Ben, takes him home, and due to a misunderstanding, they dont use protection. When she figures out that she is pregnant, she tells Ben, who says he will support her and the baby, and she decides to have it. Although they try to make their relationship work because of the circumstances, they are at such different places in their lives that their relationship quickly becomes tense and difficult. Alison is concerned about Bens lack of financial stability, hiding her pregnancy from her boss, and the fear that she and Ben will end up like her sister Debbie and her husband Pete (Paul Rudd), who have had problems in their marriage. In the midst of doctors visits and fights, Alison decides they are too different and ends their relationship. Debbie and Pete have also split up after she finds out about his fantasy baseball draft, when she suspected him of actually going out to have an affair. Pete and Ben both realize that to continue to be part of a family they will have to change things about their mentalities and lifestyles, and ask themselves if they are willing to make those changes.moreless
