Know Your Mushrooms is a 2009 documentary film that goes inside the 2007 Telluride Mushroom Festival held each year in Telluride, Colorado. The film allows viewers to see the type of lectures, displays, activities and special events that take place at the Telluride festival and introduces them to several mushroom growers and vendors. It follows several mycologists as they demonstrate the types of mushrooms they grow and the special qualities and uses of each type. It also focuses on the many environmentally friendly uses of fungi including using them to clean up areas that have been damaged by chemicals or toxins, and demonstrates how they can be used as a natural and safe alternative to pesticides. The film also takes viewers on the hunt for wild mushrooms, highlighting some of the most common places to find them and showing viewers how to identify them and determine which ones are toxic and which ones are safe to eat.
