Kokoyakyu - High School Baseball is a 2006 documentary about two schools vying for the high school national championship in Japan. The Chiben Academy, a private baseball academy in Japan, is led by coach Takashima-kantoku. He has guided his teams to three national titles and 21 appearances at Koshein, the annual tournament that determines the national champion. Chiben has a nationally famous cheer squad, a full brass band that travels with the team and 1,000 devoted followers that attend their games. Meanwhile, Tennoji is a public school, known for its rigorous academic standards, with its own hopes to make a run for the national high school title. The last time Tennoji made the national tournament was in 1949, but this year's squad looks promising. First, though, the team needs to get past the Osaka summer tournament, where 190 schools compete for just one spot in the National Tournament in Koshein. Does Tennoji even have a chance against such long odds?
