La Notte is an Italian romantic film released in 1961. The film follows a day in the life of married couple Giovanni (Marcello Mastroianni), a writer, and his wife, Lidia (Jeanne Moreau). The couple visits a dying friend, Tomasso (Bernhard Wicki) and then they attend a party in honor of the release of Giovanni's latest book. Lidia ends up leaving the party to walk the streets of Milan. She finds a neighborhood where she and Giovanni lived when they were first married, which gives her a feeling of contentment. Giovanni finds her and picks her up to go home. When they get home, they decide that they would like to go to a club. After the club, they decide to visit a party thrown by one of Giovanni's business associates. At the party, Giovanni flirts with the daughter of the host, Valentina (Monica Vitti), while Lidia flirts with another man. What happens next causes both Giovanni and Lidia to question their love for one another and their marriage.moreless
