La Vie en Rose is a 2007 biography drama written and directed by Olivier Dahan that tells the life story of famous French singer, Edith Piaf (Marion Cotillard). She was raised in tough conditions in a highly dysfunctional family, which included her mother, a singer struggling with alcohol addiction, her father, a circus entertainer, and her grandmother, an escort in a brothel. Although surrounded by things that would normally kill any motivation to pursue a career in the entertainment industry, her passion for music eliminated any doubts about her future occupation. At 20 years old she starts by singing in the streets where her talent is discovered by a club owner. Ever since, her career is a constant ascension towards popularity and success amidst adversity that included failed relationships and the loss of her child. Few people knew that the brilliant girl with a precious voice had to endure persistent chest pains due to a heart condition and problems with alcohol abuse. Even so, she never ceased to amaze the audience with her beautiful songs and energetic spirit.
