Ladies and Gentlemen, The Fabulous Stains takes a sly look at fame in the music industry in this 1982 teen satire directed by Lou Adler. Corinne (a very young Diane Lane, "Unfaithful") has just lost her mother to cancer. She faces a dreary, small town life with her narrow-minded aunt, Linda (Christine Lahti), until she decides to form a punk girl band. She drafts her sister, Tracy (Marin Kanter) and friend, Jessica (Laura Dern). One small problem, the girls don't really know how to play an instrument. What The Fabulous Stains lack in musical talent, Corrine will make up for with seductive charm. She pursues the lead singer of The Looters (Ray Winstone), the opening band for a past-its-prime Glam band, Metal Corpses. Corinne lands a tour gig for the girls and quickly learns how to play the publicity game with her tragic family story and willingness to share her romantic escapades. But stardom can be a brief flicker if you don't have talent to maintain the attention.moreless
