Ladies in Lavender is a drama film released in the United Kingdom in 2004. The movie revolves around characters Ursula Widdington (Judi Dench), Janet Widdington (Maggie Smith), and Andrea (Daniel Bruhl). Andrea is a very gifted Polish violinist who is traveling to the United States of America by ship when he is washed overboard during a storm and later swept onto a beach. He is then discovered by sisters Ursula and Janet Widdington, who care for him until he returns to health. As Andrea grows healthier the women learn that he is a gifted musician from Krakow, Poland, and begin to teach him English. Ursula and Janet soon begin to vie for his affections, even though he is barely half their age and seemingly disinterested. The setting of the film is in Cornwall, a small fishing village on the southern coast of Great Britain, in 1936. Ladies in Lavender was directed by Charles Dance.
