Lady in the Water is the 2006 live action bedtime story from wunderkind director M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs, The Village, The Happening, The Last Airbender). Cleveland Heep (Paul Giamatti, Sideways, American Splendor) is a stuttering apartment super who is rescued from drowning in the complex pool one night by an enigmatic young lady named Story (Bryce Dallas Howard, The Village, Spider Man 3) who is seemingly not of this world. Indeed, she reveals herself to be from 'the Blue World,' an underwater kingdom, and only in our world to awaken stirrings of creativity in the human 'vessel' that has been chosen for her. Upon investigation of these strange motives, Heep finds out from a tenant that the mysterious Story is, in fact, a sea nymph called a Narf, and must be protected from a killer grass wolf called a Scrunt that is out to chomp the minx before she can get to the vessel or return home.moreless
