Movie Summary

Howard Franklin
Larger than Life is a 1996 American comedy that chronicles the misadventures of a man who inherits an elephant from his father. Jack Corcoran (Bill Murray) is a motivational speaker who travels to mini malls and various performance spaces to spread his positive message across the country. Jack's father, a recently deceased circus clown, leaves him Vera, an 8,000-pound elephant named after Jack's mother. Unfortunately Jack also inherits his father's massive debts, and to solve his financial problems Jack decides to sell Vera. Jack then travels across the country to sell her, but finds it slightly precarious to travel 2000 miles with an elephant. As the two travel Jack begins to see the elephant in a different light, and a friendship is formed. He must then choose between a zookeeper or an animal show owner as Vera's new owner. Also starring Jeremy Piven, Janeane Garofalo, Pat Hingle, Linda Fiorentino, and Matthew McConaughey, Larger than Life was directed by Howard Franklin.
