Last Embrace is a 1979 thriller from director Jonathan Demme and is based on the Murray Teigh Bloom novel "The 13th Man." Intelligence agent Harry Hannon (Roy Schneider) and his wife Dorothy (Sandy McLeod) travel to Mexico to meet a contact in a local cantina, where things go awry and Dorothy is killed. Grief-stricken and paranoid, Harry spends time in a sanitorium before returning to his agency job. Paranoia is making him doubt everything and his boss, Mr. Eckhert (Christopher Walken), isn't happy he's back. His dead wife's brother Dave (Charles Napier) is holding Harry responsible for Dorothy's death. He's being followed by a private detective, threatened by a college professor named Richard Peabody (John Glover) and is receiving notes in Ancient Hebrew written in blood. Making this truly Hitchcockian film complete, Harry now believes his agency wants him dead. Are his paranoid delusions out of control, or has Harry finally wised up to the truth?
