Le Combat Dans l'Ile is a black-and-white French film released in 1962 and directed by Alain Cavalier. The plot revolves around Clement Lesser (Jean-Louis Trintignant) and his growing dissatisfaction with the world around him. Clement is from a wealthy family, but he severs all ties with them when he becomes a member of a right-wing terrorist organization. Only his wife, Anne (Romy Schneider), remains with him in his newfound zealotry. The extremist group, of which Clement is now a member, blames the Communists for threatening their dearly held way of life. The group increases its vigor and starts to plan more assassination attempts. Ultimately betrayed by his group, Clement and Anne take up refuge with his old friend, Paul (Henri Serre), who is a left-wing pacifist. Can Clement exist with his old friend, even though they now hold stark, opposing viewpoints? Will Anne continue to stand by her husband after all they have been through?moreless
