Le Grand Voyage follows a father and son on their religious pilgrimage to Mecca from France. R''da (Nicolas Cazal'') is preparing to take his academic qualification exams and prepare for his education when he's summoned by his devout Muslim father (Mohamed Majd) to make the required spiritual pilgrimage to Mecca. R''da is reluctant to go. His attentions are focused on his relationship with a Western girl instead of the teachings of Islam, but he agrees and his father and the two set out from the south of France across the continent to Saudi Arabia on an epic road trip. Along the way, they encounter several characters that teach each about the cultural, religious and generational divide between them and test their familial bond. The 2004 film was directed by Isma''l Ferroukhi, the film won best film at the 2005 Mar del Plata Film Festival and garnered a best actor award for Majd.
