Movie Summary

Vic Sarin
Left Behind is a 2000 Christian drama about the end of the world. Journalist Buck Williams (Kirk Cameron) is visiting Israel reporting on the amazing scientific work of Dr. Chaim Rosenzweig (Colin Fox) when the entire country comes under a massive attack by its Arab neighbors. Meanwhile, across the world, people are beginning to disappear seemingly at random, an event which is later determined to be the biblical event known as the Rapture. On his flight back home, Buck becomes friendly with the plane's pilot, Rayford Steele (Brad Johnson). After their flight is forced to land in Chicago, Rayford takes Buck back to his home where Buck meets Rayford's daughter, Chloe (Janaya Stephens) and has a spiritual awakening. Buck then heads to New York and learns that the head of the United Nations is, in fact, the Anti-Christ, and that Dr. Rosenzweig is in cahoots with him to establish world domination. Both Buck and Rayford must repair their relationship with God as the world begins to end.moreless

Metacritic Score

  • 50

    Variety Joe Leydon

Might be extremely effective while preaching to the converted, but it's no great shakes as secular entertainment.

  • 30

The New York Times Stephen Holden

For all its intimations of fire and brimstone, the film isn't remotely frightening, and the high-school-level acting doesn't help.

  • 10

    Washington Post Desson Thomson

A blundering cringefest, thanks to unintentionally laughable dialogue, hackneyed writing and uninspired direction.
