Lemon Tree is a 2008 drama directed by Eran Riklis. The story follows Salma Zidani (Hiam Abbass), a Palestian widow who lives in the West Bank. Salma makes her living by growing and selling lemons from the grove she inherited from her father. When Israeli Defense Minister Israel Navon (Doron Tavory) moves in next door, Salma's lemon trees are declared a potential security threat. The Defence minister issues orders to have them removed. With her livelihood under threat, Salma fights to keep her trees. She hires a young attorney, Ziad Daud (Ali Suliman ), and takes the case all the way to the Supreme Court in Israel. Working closely with Ziad, Salma begins to develop feelings for him. Meanwhile, the Defense Minister's wife, Mira Navon (Rona Lipaz-Michael) feeling trapped in both her home and marriage, reaches out to Salma to offer her support. In the end, however, Salma finds herself in race against time as her case slowly winds its way through court while the Israel Defense Force continues to wratchet up the pressure.moreless
