Levity is a 2003 drama film that centers on Manual Jordan (Billy Bob Thornton), a man who is serving a life sentence for killing a boy, Abner Easley (Geoffrey Wigder), during an attempted armed robbery. When Manual is granted parole, he decides to go back to the city where he is from to find redemption. He is offered a job and a room by a preacher, Miles Evans (Morgan Freeman). Manual places a photo of Abner in his room. It is at the community house that he meets Adele Easley (Holly Hunter), the sister of Abner. In an attempt for forgiveness, Manual befriends Adele, who at first does not realize he is the man that killed her brother. Their relationship begins to flourish, with Manual even taking over as a father figure for Adele's rebellious teenage son.
