Lies My Mother Told Me is a drama film that aired on Lifetime about con artist Laren (Joely Richardson) and daughter Haylei (Hayden Panettiere), based loosely on the true store of Elisa McNabney. Laren Sims is a single mother who uses a stolen credit card to pay for Christmas presents and goes to jail for 90 days. When she steals for a second time, instead of getting caught, she and Haylei steal a car from a dealership, leaving a stolen credit card as collateral. They proceed across the country, using bad checks and stolen credit cards, escaping detection by changing license plates and stealing the identities of others. In Vegas, Laren meets a wealthy man who she becomes involved with and embezzles $90,00 from his business, resulting in him being disbarred. In a moment a weakness she confessed to her husband, Lucas, her real name and origin, and he does some research that leads to his discovery of her criminal past. It seems that Laren’s time is up, but she will risk anything- including her daughter and someone's life- to try to get away with it.moreless
