Life as a House is a 2001 drama starring Kevin Cline and Hayden Christensen in a story about one man's last attempt to build solid relationships with his ex-wife and their son before he succumbs to terminal cancer. Kline plays George Monroe, whose career building small-scale models of houses for an architecture firm has left him feeling unfulfilled for years. When the company pressures their employees to switch to computer-based technologies, Monroe decides the time has come to take a stand and his boss fires him. Shortly thereafter, Monroe collapses and is diagnosed with terminal cancer. Now, free of the job that has consumed his life for so many years and with a rapidly approaching deadline, he tries to reconnect with his angsty son Sam (Christensen) and his ex-wife Robin (Kristin Scott Thomas) by rebuilding their home from the ground-up. This film features a talented cast, including supporting actors Jena Malone and Mary Steenburgen, while composer Mark Isham provides the acclaimed soundtrack. Life as a House is a heartwarming film that shows good relationships, like good houses, take a lot of hard work.moreless
