The Fantasia Barrino Story: Life is Not a Fairy Tale is a Lifetime original movie based on the book of the same name, an autobiography of American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino. The film covers her humble beginnings and the struggles she faced growing up. Raised in High Point, North Carolina by her mother and grandmother, both preachers who encouraged her strong faith in God. Fantasia had problems with her self esteem as an adolescnt, suffered from sexual abuse, and was pregnant at the age of seventeen. Although she had talent, she was uneducated and an unwed teen mom living in poverty, and new she would have to take drastic risks to escape the dead end path that the women before here ended up in. She took the chance of auditioning for American Idol, and winning changed her life for the better. Fantasia plays herself in the film, which also features Loretta Devine as her grandmother, Kadeem Hudson as her father, and Viola Davis as her mother.moreless
