Light It Up is a dramatic film directed by Craig Bolotin that centers on a poor inner-city high school as a minor misunderstanding turns into a small riot, leaving the school in lock down with hostages. Lincoln High School was falling apart. The heat rarely worked, there were never enough desks or even books for every student, and when their favorite teacher, Mr. Knowles (Judd Nelson) is suspended for taking them to a warm place off-campus, bitter Lester DeWitt (Usher), overachieving Stephanie Williams (Rosario Dawson), and artistic Ziggy Malone (Robert Ri'chard) lash out against the principal. However, when the new police officer working the school, Dante Jackson (Forest Whitaker) assumes Ziggy's a problem, he ends up setting a course of actions that will leave Dante with a bullet in his thigh, the school in a lock down, and enough public attention to demand a negotiator. As the students come to term with what they can do with their situation, assumptions are shattered and life lessons are learned.moreless
