Lightning Raiders is a western mystery film released in 1945 and directed by Sam Newfield. Wealthy Frank Hayden (Steve Darrell) greedily lusts after a large plot of land owned by a local rancher. When his offer to buy the land is refused, Hayden lends the rancher some money at interest. With his crony Henchman Kane (I. Standford Jolley), Hayden sabotages the stagecoach containing the repayment, and intends to seize the land in exchange for the "defaulted" loan. However, his plan is complicated when a bag of mail from the coach is found by locals Billy Carson (Buster Crabbe) and Fuzzy Jones (Al St. John). Looking through its contents, Billy and Fuzzy discover evidence of Hayden's treachery. Now they must father more evidence and convince the rest of the townspeople that their wealthiest, most respected neighbor is an extortionist and a thief. Lightning Raiders is a classic western drama with plenty of snappy dialogue and some hilarious moments of physical comedy. It shouldn't be missed by anyone who loves westerns!moreless
