Like Mike is a 2002 family film from director John Schultz. Basketball fanatic Calvin Cambridge (Lil Bow Wow), a twelve-year old orphan, dreams of a career in the NBA playing with his heroes. His friends at the orphanage, Murph (Jonathon Lipnicki) and Reg (Brenda Song), dream of having a family of their own, while supporting Calvin's basketball dreams. When Calvin finds a pair of old, beaten-up Nike sneakers at a thrift store, the youngster is thrilled to find the initials M.J. written on the inside. M.J. must surely stand for Michael Jordan, Calvin reasons, making the old sneakers his most prized possession. Picked to participate in a half-time hoops contest with the L.A. Knights star player Tracey Reynolds (Morris Chestnut), Calvin prays for his shoes to "Make me like Mike." His prayers must have been heard, because the diminutive Calvin runs circles around the NBA star, landing shot after shot. His performance is so incredible that he's immediately signed to a NBA contract, playing with the Knights. Greedy orphanage director Stan Bittleman (Crispin Glover) is all that stands in the way of Calvin living his dreams. Can Calvin, with help from Murph and Reg, outwit the bumbling director?moreless
