Lil Jon: Unauthorized is an hour-long video essay that chronicles the rise of Lil Jon, the "King of Crunk." Born in southwest Atlanta, Jonathan Smith AKA Lil Jon went from a shy skateboarder to one of Atlanta's hottest DJs and hip-hop icon. The 62-minute video essay, narrated by the director, is a showcase of widely-available stills and video footage of Lil Jon, his crew, producers and well-wishers. The movie offers a simple biography of Lil Jon and provides some lesser-known details of Lil Jon's pre-fame years, including his upbringing as a shy welder's son who ultimately gives up his glasses and skateboard for DJ turntables. This video essay, Visionary Entertainment's first and only video release, uses basic editing and narration to provide a glimpse into Lil Jon's rise to fame. Lil Jon is widely credited for having spread the word "Crunk" beyond Atlanta, and his influence on the hip-hop industry, and hip-hop culture at large, is presented here as a collection of narrated images and video footage.moreless
