Movie Summary

Chris Sanders (III) , Dean DeBlois
Lilo & Stitch is an animated film about a young Hawaiian girl, Lilo (Daveigh Chase), and an alien creature she adopts and names Stitch (Chris Sanders). In a galaxy far away, Dr. Jumba Jookiba (David Ogden Stiers) is conducting illegal genetic experiments. His experiment, #626, is a nearly indestructible being whose only major flaw is an inability to swim. The Galactic Federation soon gets wind of these illegal experiments and decides all of the creations should be confined to a prison asteroid. Captain Gantu (Kevin Michael Richardson) is charged with taking the beings to the their new home. But experiment #626 escapes, steals the police ship and heads across the galaxy to Earth. He ends up in Hawaii where he is found, adopted and cared for by Lilo. Soon, two more Galactic Federation policemen end up on the island searching for Stitch. They see the bond that has formed between Lilo and Stitch and are faced with a decision. Should they leave Stitch there where he can do no harm, owing to his inability to swim, or should they do their duty and take him back to prison asteroid and break Lilo's heart?moreless

Metacritic Score

  • 80

The New York Times Dana Stevens

Hardly a work of state-of-the-art virtuosity, but rather an example of quiet, confident craftsmanship that tells a sweet, charming tale of intergalactic friendship.

  • 80

    Los Angeles Times Kenneth Turan

Looser and less obviously formulaic in its fresh approach to our hearts, the brash Lilo & Stitch has an unleashed, subversive sense of humor that's less corporate and more uninhibi...

  • 70

    Variety Todd McCarthy

Has a casual, freewheeling nature in contrast to the creeping grandiosity of some of Disney's A-list animated titles.
